A Design Manifesto
Design without consideration of intended results is just art. Art sits on a wall and may or may not affect those who view it. Ultimately "art" does not allow for, and is not concerned with, quantifying effectiveness. Design, on the other hand, must be produced to achieve specific, measurable goals.
A clear understanding of the intended audience and the exact metrics that will determine a successful outcome are required before a result-based design process can be initiated.
A gorgeous Flash Website that can not be found using relevant search engine phrases is no better than the highly optimized Website that distracts visitors with meaningless text. Both will fail to best achieve results.
